This work explores the daily struggles of working-class Black South Africans living outside Johannesburg, who rely on minibus taxis for long, exhausting commutes to the city. Despite the end of apartheid, the legacy of spatial inequality and racial segregation persists, leaving many in underdeveloped areas with limited access to opportunities. The piece also reflects on my own position of relative (dis)comfort as an observer of these disparities in an African city that is still battling its own demons.
